This wiki is dedicated to the Somali History, Language, and Culture course. As a wiki, it offers a fluid format that allows for users not only to access content but also to generate content. Course organizers, students, and presenters have all contributed to the wiki.
EDU T&L 727O28 was a professional development course intended for in-service teachers in the Columbus City Schools, offered June 15-19, 2009. It was sponsored by The Ohio State University, the Ohio Humanities Council, and the United States Department of Education.
The main focus of the course was on developing new and deeper understandings of Somali history, language, and culture that are particularly relevant for and can be translated into practice by educators. Teachers will be able to enhance their relationships with Somali students and their families, gain insight into the challenges faced by Somali immigrant-refugees in classrooms and beyond, and explore strategies that will improve the educational experience of Somali students and their families.
